On July 10, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (Shanhai Heavy Industry) completed the fourth major docking milestone of the year seven days ahead of schedule. This achievement included the successful launch of two fully assembled vessels—the M85K-4, an 85,000-ton multipurpose pulp carrier, and the P110K-55, a 115,000-ton product tanker—as well as the floating of two half-assembled ships, the T110K-7, a 115,000-ton crude oil tanker, and the M85K-5, an 85,000-ton multipurpose pulp carrier. Additionally, the keel was laid for the B37K-9, a 37,000-ton Great Lakes-type bulk carrier. These five major production milestones signify a further improvement in the overall assembly integrity of the company’s shipbuilding projects, setting a strong foundation for the third quarter.

Shanhai Heavy Industry adhered to lean production goals by optimizing workflow coordination, formulating specialized docking schedules, and strengthening management controls. Focusing on core construction processes, the company developed tailored in-dock construction plans to achieve the targeted launch integrity. Notably, the M85K-4 completed all cargo hold lifting tests, while the bow anchor winch achieved powered chain deployment and mooring operations. The P110K-55 saw full cable routing from the deck to the living quarters and from the living quarters to the engine room, with all cable laying completed.

All production units at Shanhai Heavy Industry worked in unison to overcome construction challenges. By optimizing processes, implementing specialized docking plans, and enhancing oversight, the company rigorously monitored plan execution. Centered on core projects, it devised in-dock construction strategies and deepened communication with shipowners to meet launch integrity targets.

Despite sweltering heat and prolonged rainfall, the painting department exemplified a “proactive and early-action” approach. Through teamwork, efficient coordination, and smart shift scheduling (day and night shifts working alternately), they maximized progress while minimizing weather disruptions. The P110K-55’s cargo oil tank pre-blasting and exterior panel painting were completed ahead of schedule, securing critical time for subsequent milestones. Before launch, all main cable routes—deck to living quarters and living quarters to engine room—were fully connected, with cable laying finalized. The dock cycle achieved an impressive 94 days, 20 days shorter than the previous vessel. The living quarters were installed using a 600-ton dual-crane lift, hoisted and assembled in one operation, further enhancing structural integrity.
