According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, the ship was carrying out the scheduled route Piraeus – Milos – Souda and there were 1,246 passengers and 108 crew members on board.
A Coast Guard vessel, a fishing vessel, as well as a passenger-vehicle ferry rushed to the grounding site in order to assist if required.
The port authorities are investigating the circumstances under which the power loss and subsequent grounding occurred, while the ship was prohibited from sailing until the completion of the required inspections.
“The company is cooperating with the competent Authorities and will inform of any further developments,” ANEK Lines states in an announcement following the incident.
According to the company’s announcement, the incident occurred today, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 03:10 in the morning, shortly after the ship’s departure from Milos, while executing the scheduled route from Piraeus to Chania.
The technical malfunction was repaired by the engine room crew, while the ship returned under its own power to the port of Adamantas, where it remains safely moored pending inspection by the competent authorities. There are 1,246 passengers and 108 crew members on board.
No injuries were reported among passengers and crew from the incident, nor was any marine pollution or water ingress detected.
