An increase in the number of appeals from seafarers facing non-payment of wages, lack of food, water, or fuel on vessels under the Iranian flag or vessels /operated in Iran and the UAE was reported by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), according to Seafarers Journal.
ITF calls on all seafarers who are on a vessel where such problems have arisen, or who observe that the shipowner is avoiding contact or is not taking responsibility for the crew, to report them. ITF emphasized that these are clear signs that the vessel is abandoned or at risk.
