Snam has announced that it has signed an agreement with the shareholders of Higas, the company that owns the Oristano coastal LNG depot, “for the start of an exclusive analysis and negotiation period regarding the possible acquisition of 100% of the company’s share capital,
as well as the expansion and conversion of the current coastal depot into a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU)”.
The note adds that “the operation, once finalized, could allow the injection of regasified natural gas from the future Oristano FSRU into the soon-to-be-built transport network in Sardinia, which will serve the industrial and thermoelectric center-south segment of the island and the users in the provinces of Cagliari, Oristano, Medio Campidano and Sulcis Iglesiente”.
The installation of the FSRU vessel “could also allow – adds Snam – the supply of natural gas volumes necessary for the region’s gas grid development, while simultaneously increasing the storage capacity by about ten times compared to the current one”.
