Truckers’ associations from the southern zone of the country have called for a meeting, scheduled for next October 25 in Curanilahue, Arauco Province. The meeting was scheduled after a driver was injured in an attack that occurred on Route 5, near Ercilla.

The information was confirmed by the president of the National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile, Juan Araya, who indicated that the meeting will be attended by freight carriers from Nacimiento, Cañete, Curanilahue, Angol, and Mininco, among other localities.

“There is enormous concern among truckers in the southern macrozone regarding security issues and the continuity of forestry work. We want to meet to agree on what we are going to do in the very short term,” explained the leader, who expressed, on behalf of the union, solidarity with Juan Queupuan, the injured driver who is hospitalized for the recovery of his injuries.

Araya stated that from then on, “anything is possible,” given the threats the sector is facing, which are both related to a lack of security and working conditions.
