The Suape Industrial Port Complex handled 11.27 million tonnes of cargo from January through May 2026, up 26.9% from the same period last year, reinforcing the port’s growth trajectory since the start of the year and its role in Brazil’s national logistics network.

Based on figures through May 31, the port complex in Pernambuco ranked as Brazil’s fourth-busiest public port, according to the National Waterway Transportation Agency – Antaq.

Suape tapped into signs of a stronger year in January, when cargo movement rose 38.6% and vessel calls increased 26.2% from the first month of 2025. The five-month result confirms the expansion of industrial activity inside the complex and the strengthening of operations connecting Pernambuco to domestic and international markets.

Liquid bulk cargo accounted for 66.2% of all operations recorded during the period. Suape moved 7.45 million tonnes of oil, refined products and other liquid cargoes, up 41.9% from the same period in 2025. The increase reflects higher output at the Abreu e Lima Refinery, known as Rnest, which is now able to process up to 130,000 barrels per day.

Container movement remained at a high level. Tecon Suape handled 275,714 TEUs between January and May, a volume similar to the same period last year and equivalent to 25.9% of the complex’s operations.

Solid bulk cargo also posted strong growth, reaching 658,642 tonnes, up 43.6%. The main products included wheat, cement, clinker and coke. Breakbulk cargo accounted for 2.1% of total throughput.

The rise in cargo activity also lifted maritime traffic. Suape received 693 vessels of different sizes and profiles in the first five months of the year, up 14.7% from the same period in 2025.

Competitiveness

Suape CEO Armando Monteiro Bisneto said the results show that the port is consolidating a sustainable expansion cycle.

“The numbers confirm the strength of our industrial park, the growth of energy-related operations and the effects of investments that have been increasing the port’s competitiveness. Suape is strengthening its position as one of Brazil’s main logistics hubs, helping attract investment, generate jobs and support economic development in Pernambuco,” he said.

The performance comes as the complex moves through a broader expansion phase, with investments in infrastructure, operational modernization and port capacity. With its strategic location and connections to Brazil’s main maritime routes, Suape continues to strengthen its role as a logistics, industrial and energy platform in the Northeast.

José Constantino, Suape’s director of port development and management, said the results reflect not only stronger demand for fuels and refined products, but also the importance of planned investments in the port’s liquid bulk piers.

“These works will be essential to increase operational efficiency, expand service capacity and ensure that Suape can keep pace with the growth of the oil, refined products and fuels chain, which today accounts for most of the cargo handled at the complex,” he said.
