Four major tanker owners and managers have adopted a software suite to manage crewing on hundreds of ships
Knutsen Group, Maersk Group, Northern Marine Group and Torm have implemented the Compas crew management system to support their maritime human resources (HR) and improve crew welfare.
All four tanker operators went live with Compas in one weekend to help manage, develop and retain staff.
In addition, Ocean Technologies Group (OTG)’s Compas was also adopted by shipmanagement group OSM in April.
This software provides comprehensive coverage of maritime HR functions, using real-time data and workflows, reducing administration for onboard managers and HR teams ashore.
“The transition from our old crewing system to Compas has, after a comprehensive testing and configuration period, been a success,” said Torm vice president and head of marine HR Allan Dan Jensen.
“We can already see the advantages and synergies of having a modern system originated out of the optimal crew planning as the core functionality,” he said.
Compas is part of OTG’s suite of learning and fleet management solutions. It presents real-time crewing data in an intuitive interface, enabling shipowners and managers to view their complete crewing picture.
They can use Compas to plan years in advance if necessary, and dynamically adapt plans to quickly cover any issues that arise.
Seafarers also benefit by using the Compas mobile application and web portal to gain access to their contract information, training requirements and other HR-related information.
OTG said Compas saves time and delivers operational efficiencies that lead to a typical return on investment within six months, through automation of a company’s manual systems and processes.
Compas chief executive Cornel Ciocan said more of OTG’s existing clients are looking to implement Compas in the near future.
“Being able to move four major customers from the testing stage to a go-live situation on the same weekend was a tremendous achievement and made possible because of the expertise and tireless work of the whole team,” he said.
