A tanker reported to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations Center (Uktmo) an attempted boarding by armed individuals on board a speedboat off the coast of Yemen, which forced the vessel to maneuver to prevent the attackers from entering.
Uktmo stated that “it has received a report of an incident occurring 50 nautical miles southeast of Al-Shihr, Yemen. The master of a product tanker reported being approached by a speedboat with five armed individuals who were apparently attempting to board the vessel.”
“In response, the vessel took evasive maneuvers and changed course to move away from the speedboat. The vessel is now proceeding to its next port of call. The vessel and crew are reported to be safe,” they explained at the operations center.
“The authorities are investigating. Vessels are advised to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity to Uktmo,” they indicated.
