The Port of Valparaíso, through the activity of its concession terminals, transferred 773,710 TEU from January to October 2025, consolidating a growth of 24.2% compared to the same time frame last year.
According to figures released by the Port Company of Valparaíso (EPV), in the month of October, container movement at the maritime station was 70,561 TEU, which is 19.4% more than in the same period of 2024.
“At the regional level, 272,902 TEU were mobilized, reflecting that the participation of the Port of Valparaíso in the regional total remains with a share close to 32% of the total TEU mobilized in the region as of October,” the state-owned company pointed out.
Regarding the performance of the Port of Valparaíso during 2025, in relation to Chilean foreign trade, import containerized cargo has reached 2,361,811 tons, representing a rise of 27.2% compared to the previous cycle.
Likewise, breakbulk cargo accumulates 1,258,643 tons, equivalent to an increase of 14.9%. “This growth is due to the port having managed mainly exports of fruit, wine, and industrial products,” emphasized EPV.
For its part, the transfer of export containers totaled 3,642,932 tons, meaning a positive variation of 9.4%. Meanwhile, breakbulk cargo, as of October, reaches 140,857 tons, 53.1% more, including the movement of cargo related to machinery, spare parts, and steel materials.
In this regard, Franco Gandolfo, General Manager of Puerto Valparaíso, commented that “the good results at the Port of Valparaíso during 2025, beyond global economic factors, reflect the commitment and professionalism of the port workers, concessionaires, and public and private entities that collaborate within the logistics chain. Thanks to their joint effort, we have managed to optimize logistics management, maintain high safety standards, and provide an efficient service to foreign trade.”
“This joint work is key to contributing significantly to the local and national economy, consolidating the competitiveness of our port and logistics system, which continues to strengthen its relevance for the country’s economic development and that of our port city, generating employment, and productive and service linkages,” he added.
Total Cargo
Meanwhile, during the first ten months of 2025, the Port of Valparaíso recorded sustained growth in the transfer of total cargo, reaching a cumulative increase of 14.5% compared to the same period the previous year. “Between January and October, 7,884,164 tons were mobilized, confirming the positive trend observed at the port during this period,” EPV specified.
This performance is partly due to improvements in logistics management and collaboration among the different actors in the chain, factors that have contributed to optimizing processes and reducing transport dwell times,” it added.
The current positive trend in container transfer recorded during 2025, according to explanations from the state-owned port company of Valparaíso, coincides with the results of actions implemented together with the logistics actors gathered in the Valparaíso Logistics Forum (Folovap), such as the optimization of truck routes and the reduction of congestion events in the access to the Logistics Support Extension Zone (ZEAL).
