The ship, towed to the Yusen terminal, now moves on to inspections and cleanup operations
Los Angeles – The container ship One Henry Hudson has safely returned to its berth at the Yusen terminal in the port of Los Angeles. The US Coast Guard announced that the unit, which remained anchored outside the breakwater after the fire broke out last Friday, was towed to the dock late Wednesday evening, with no new ignitions or heat signals reported in the previously involved containers.
With the return to port, operations are now focusing on cargo inspection and the disposal of firefighting water present in the holds. The Incident Commander, USCG Captain Stacey Crecy, emphasized that the safe transfer of the ship demonstrates the effectiveness of the cooperation between the involved authorities and reiterated that the priority remains public and operator safety until the emergency is fully concluded.
The fire had broken out on Friday evening and required the intervention of nearly 200 people. On Saturday morning, the ship had been towed to the roadstead while firefighting operations continued. No injuries were reported. The incident is part of a series of serious fires on container ships that often require weeks or months to be fully extinguished.
The causes are now the subject of a joint investigation by the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board. The One Henry Hudson, flying the Panamanian flag, is operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE).
