Dutch shipping company Longship Group has taken delivery of the final vessel in a series of four general cargo ships built by Turkey’s Atlas Shipyard.
Named Longeden, the vessel measures 130 meters in length and 16 meters in width, with a deadweight capacity of 8,600 tons and a gross tonnage of 6,795 tons. It is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system compliant with EU Stage V emission standards, which powers an electric motor connected to a large-diameter fixed-pitch propeller within an azimuth thruster.
The ship’s diesel propulsion system can be retrofitted to run on methanol fuel in the future.
Longeden is capable of transporting various dry bulk cargoes, including general cargo and project cargo such as wind turbine blades. Cargo can be stored in box-shaped holds or on top of the deck hatch covers. The vessel is also approved to operate in open-top mode when required.
Dutch ship design firm Ankerbeer was responsible for the design of Longeden and its three sister ships.
