Little by little the Maritime Hub is consolidating itself in the agendas of the different blue economy activities taking place in the city of Barcelona in November. Throughout the day, the fifth edition was held, which featured Quebec as the guest country. “After Tomorrow Blue and some other activities like ours, together we are managing to make November the month of the blue economy in Barcelona,” stated the director of the Xarxa BlueNetCat, Lourdes Reig, who added regarding this that “everyone knows that the month of November is full of blue economy activities and that creates a concentration which helps us to catch up on different current blue economy topics,” assured Lourdes Reig. This fifth edition of the Maritime Hub brought together more than 150 people in the Auditorium of the Torre Diagonal One, an unprecedented success. “We give a very positive assessment as we continue to grow, with a higher number of registrations each year. Beyond this, what we like the most is that people count on us. People know that November arrives and that means the Maritime Hub is coming,” highlighted the director of the Xarxa BlueNetCat.

Xarxa BlueNetCat three more years.
From the entity she directs, the Xarxa BluNetCat, they are experiencing days of happiness after having been able to renew the public contract until 2028, although from the Xarxa they assure that they will work to ensure there is a future beyond this 2028. Throughout the day, different personalities took to the stage of the Maritime Hub to give their presentations and even a round table was held to address issues from different areas of the blue economy and the marine world. “BlueNetCat is much more than a network, it is a scientific community with more than 700 members. The Xarxa BlueNetCat is a living example of how collaboration between entities and local agents can generate impact,” stated Lourdes Puigbarraca, deputy director of transfer and knowledge society of the Generalitat de Catalunya during one of her presentations.

Also participating in this fifth edition of the Maritime Hub was the conseller d’agricultura, ramaderia, pesca i alimentació of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Óscar Ordeig, who stated that we are living through very complex times in recent decades. In any case, Ordeig made clear the importance of events like today’s and wanted to highlight the great impact and growth that the blue economy is having in our territory. “This fifth edition of the Maritime Hub should serve to focus the blue economy strategy and emerge stronger. Catalunya is a Mediterranean country that concentrates 42% of its population in the coastal area,” stated a conseller who also wanted to review in figures what the blue economy contributes to the country in recent years. 25 billion in turnover and more than 23,000 people working make the blue economy a factor to be considered in the growth of Catalunya.
