In the second quarter, the group’s port terminals handled 3.2 million containers (+7.9%)

In the second quarter of this year, the German terminal operator group Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) recorded record revenues of 448.9 million euros, with growth of +13.2% compared to the corresponding period in 2024, thanks to the record turnover of the core port terminal business, which amounted to 439.4 million euros (+13.4%). The gross operating margin was 89.9 million (+10.4%), and operating profit was 46.8 million (+13.0%), with contributions from port terminals amounting to 84.3 million (+11.4%) and 43.7 million (+15.0%), respectively. Profit after taxes stood at 18.9 million euros (-5.9%), of which 17.2 million came from port activities (-4.4%).

In the April-June 2025 period, the group’s port terminals handled container traffic of 1.63 million TEUs (+10.3%). Additionally, the intermodal traffic handled by the company reached a record volume of 501,000 TEUs (+12.1%).

In the first half of 2025, containerized traffic in the port terminals amounted to 3.17 million TEUs, with an increase of +7.9% compared to the first half of the previous year. HHLA announced that the terminals in the port of Hamburg alone handled 3.01 million TEUs (+6.9%). The group’s foreign port terminals handled 165,000 TEUs, with a strong increase of +28.7%, which—according to the German group—was driven by growth in traffic handled by HHLA PLT Italy, the HHLA subsidiary operating in the port of Trieste, where a decline in the first quarter was followed by a rise in the second quarter, and by the resumption of traffic at the Container Terminal Odessa in the Ukrainian port of Odessa.
