Personnel from the Port Authority of Gijón participated in Castellón in the launch of the Life PMFree-Ports project, which will run until May 2028 and which, in addition to Gijón, has the participation of other port authorities such as Valencia, Cartagena, Puertos del Estado, and the Valenciaport Foundation. The objective of this project is to reduce PM10 and PM2.5 particles generated by solid bulk port operations, which in the port of Gijón are essentially coal, minerals, and food products.
Among the project’s actions are the characterization of emission factors, the evaluation of corrective measures, and the development of a predictive tool that will allow for the anticipation of episodes and the planning of preventive actions. Once the effectiveness of this tool is verified, it will become part of the port’s operations. It is planned that, after its implementation in the ports of Gijón, Cartagena, and Valencia, the project’s results will be replicated in other ports of the Spanish port system.
