On July 1, 2025, Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, announced that over 1,000 vessels have now ordered NexusWave services. Following months of rigorous development and testing, the service has gained strong momentum within its first six months of availability, with global customers adopting NexusWave solutions for their fleets. This milestone highlights the maritime industry’s strong demand for fully managed, high-speed hybrid connectivity that combines the benefits of multiple networks with the convenience of a single provider.

Early adopters such as Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line), Anthony Veder, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Solvang, Sallaum Lines, and the Parlevliet & van der Plas Group are already experiencing the benefits of transforming their vessels into “floating offices and living spaces.”

Inmarsat’s NexusWave service seamlessly integrates Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, Low Earth Orbit (LEO), coastal LTE, and adaptable L-band services into a fully managed solution. Inmarsat’s unique “network bonding” technology enables connected applications to utilize the combined speed and capacity of all available networks simultaneously, rather than relying on a single connection.

Recent real-world testing demonstrates NexusWave’s exceptional performance, achieving download speeds of up to 340 Mbps and upload speeds of 80 Mbps. The service maintains consistent network availability of over 99.9% onboard, with video call quality unaffected by individual network conditions. Inmarsat’s solution dynamically adjusts traffic routing to ensure smooth user experiences even in high-connectivity demand areas.

Users also benefit from unlimited data, global coverage, and built-in security architecture, providing comprehensive “connectivity confidence.” For crew members, this means seamless access to web browsing, streaming, gaming, video/voice calls, instant messaging, and social media—delivering a “home-like” internet experience at sea.

Ben Palmer, President of Inmarsat Maritime, stated: “We take great pride in surpassing 1,000 vessel orders for NexusWave. This achievement validates the vision and commitment of everyone involved in its development and reflects forward-thinking operators’ deeper needs—they seek more than just speed and reliability.

NexusWave provides shipowners with a complete solution to upgrade vessels into ‘floating offices and living spaces,’ advancing their digital strategies and crew welfare programs. The solution delivers comprehensive connectivity confidence through global coverage, unlimited data, and enterprise-grade network security. Most importantly, it combines all these advantages with the convenience of a single trusted maritime connectivity partner.”
