The accumulated traffic in the port of Santander has exceeded 4.6 million tons, with a decrease of 1.1% up to September, but it records an annual result that has risen to 7,130,118 tons, consolidating the barrier of seven million tons and only one tenth less than last year, after a hesitant start to the year.
The container traffic stands out, which increased by 5.9% compared to the accumulated total of these eight months of 2024, reaching 106,526 TEUs, while automobiles did so by 3.4%, standing at 211,386 units.
General cargo, which has the highest added value, already accounts for 52.8% of the total, followed by solid bulk, which is 43.9% of the goods, while liquid bulk only represents 3.3% of the total tons handled in the Cantabrian infrastructure.
The president of the APS, César Díaz, has reviewed the traffic results for the first eight months of the year, stating that “the data reflects the consolidation of the seven million tons and the increase in general cargo.”
Díaz pointed out that the number of tons accumulated in the eight months of this year is very similar to that recorded during the same period of 2024, a “positive” figure, “since we must not forget that we are comparing ourselves with the best year in the port’s history in terms of goods movement.”
In his view, “we are meeting the objectives set for this year, which involve responsible economic management that allows us to continue investing in infrastructure to increase the competitiveness and quality of the service we offer and increase the added value of our traffic.”
