Between October 2024 and September 2025, the total traffic of the port of Santander reached 7.1 million tons, 0.2% more than the previous period, weighed down by an atypical start to the year. In September, 149 ships and 677,935 tons were recorded, the second best figure of the year. The January-September cumulative reached 5.29 million tons, 1.4% less than in 2024.
By type of cargo, liquid bulk accounts for 3.2%, solid bulk for 44.8%, and general cargo for 52%. The port moved 4.4% more containers, up to 118,965 TEUs, and 241,078 automobiles, with an increase of 6.4%, confirming its key role in the logistics of northern Spain.
During the presentation of the data corresponding to the first three quarters of the year, the president of the Santander Port Authority (APS), César Díaz, highlighted the 6.4% growth in vehicle traffic, with more than twenty brands operating in the port, which keeps it in second place in the ANFAC ranking, after the port of Tarragona. Díaz also underlined the 4.4% increase in container traffic, consolidating the goal of exceeding seven million tons in 2025, a figure close to last year’s historical record.
The president of the port of Santander is optimistic about the progress in its investment plan for infrastructure and services to reinforce business competitiveness despite the uncertainties of global trade.
