Livorno – The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has officialized the appointment of the prefect of Livorno, Giancarlo Dionisi, as Extraordinary Commissioner for the Darsena Europa, thus confirming the previews of recent weeks. The announcement came during a meeting at the Bagni Pancaldi in Livorno, which was marked by protests outside. Salvini reiterated the government’s full support for the project, explaining that he had already started a discussion with Confindustria, the trade unions, and the Port System Authority. He also recalled that the 500 million necessary for the realization of the work have already been allocated and that the Ministry’s commitment will continue until the infrastructure’s completion.

According to institutional sources, this extraordinary assignment represents a decisive tool for overcoming the accumulated delays and guaranteeing the concrete advancement of the works planned by the Mit. According to the ministry, the appointment of Dionisi, a figure of experience and deep knowledge of the territory, aims to give new impetus to a strategic project for the port of Livorno and for the entire Tyrrhenian logistics system. In his role as Commissioner, he will be called upon to coordinate the work, streamline procedures, and foster collaboration between institutions, local authorities, and economic operators.

The Darsena Europa, an infrastructure of national importance, involves the seaward expansion of the port with new terminals and docks capable of accommodating state-of-the-art ships. The goal is to enhance the role of the port of Livorno in freight and container traffic, strengthening its position in the Mediterranean and global context.
