The Humanitarian Operations Coordination Center (HOCC), which liaises between the Houthi forces and commercial maritime transport operators and is linked to the Houthi forces, announced that sanctions were imposed on 13 US companies, 9 executives, and 2 ships, stating that the assets included in the sanctions list would be “handled in accordance with the conflict principle.” It was stated that the Houthis defined ships belonging to these companies as “enemy assets” and could target them.
The Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen had reached a ceasefire agreement with the administration of US President Donald Trump not to attack US-linked ships sailing in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis have attacked over 100 ships since November 2023 due to Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip.
