On July 4, the delivery ceremony for China’s first 7G80MEC-LGIM-EGRTC methanol dual-fuel marine low-speed engine was successfully held at CSSC Engine Co., Ltd. (Dalian) under China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). This main engine will be installed on the world’s first methanol dual-fuel-powered intelligent VLCC, built by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. for Hong Kong-based Haihong Shipping, a subsidiary of China Merchants Energy Shipping. Attendees at the ceremony included Li Weiping, Deputy General Manager of Haihong Hong Kong; He Xu, Deputy General Manager of Dalian Shipbuilding; Liu Tiebo, Deputy General Manager of China Classification Society (CCS) Dalian Branch; and Li Wansheng, Party Secretary and Executive Director of CSSC Engine (Dalian).
The 7G80MEC-LGIM-EGRTC engine has a rated power of 32,970 kW and a maximum speed of 72 rpm, meeting the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) highest emission standards. It employs the world’s most advanced fuel injection and combustion control technology, ensuring efficient combustion for both methanol and traditional fuels, improving thermal efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and lowering vessel operating costs. When switched to methanol fuel mode, it can cut nitrogen oxide emissions by 50%, sulfur oxide emissions by 97%, particulate matter by 90%, and greenhouse gases by 5%, meeting the strictest emission requirements of any port worldwide.
Since 2022, CSSC Engine (Dalian) has overcome technical challenges and enhanced its capabilities, establishing a reliable, stable, and safe methanol dual-fuel supply system. The facility now has eight methanol dual-fuel test stations, enabling simultaneous testing of two methanol dual-fuel engines. Additionally, the company has closely followed patent holder drawings and component approvals, building a robust methanol engine supply chain. From 2024 to date, it has delivered 14 methanol dual-fuel engines of various models to clients such as Guangzhou Shipyard International and China Merchants Energy Shipping, earning high praise for its efficient development and delivery capabilities.
