A third floating LNG terminal arrived in Brunsbüttel,
Germany, last Friday January 20th as part of the country’s rapid
move away from depending on Russian gas supplies.

The Höegh Gannet (IMO 9822451) vessel stopped at
Brunsbüttel Elbehafen port near Hamburg, allowing LNG carriers to land and
their cargoes to be regasified, before being fed into the German gas grid.

Markus Krebber, CEO of RWE, said that “floating LNG
terminals enable the import of gas and thus strengthen Germany’s security of
supply. The strong energy dependence of our country on Russian pipeline gas
will end with the deployment of the special vessels.”

The first LNG cargo to be unloaded at the floating
storage and regasification unit will
arrive from Abu Dhabi National Oil, and is scheduled to arrive at the end of
January.
