A truck was destroyed after a coil fell from another vehicle in the waiting areas of the Port of Montevideo, according to El País.

The truck that suffered the damage was stopped and its driver was outside drinking mate, so he was saved because he had gotten out a few minutes earlier to rest, as reported to Canal 12.

“A few minutes earlier I got out to prepare the mate, I went around to the passenger’s side, when I opened the door I heard a crash. Some colleagues shouted to me that the load was coming down on my truck and I moved back and it fell,” Daniel, the driver, told the media.

“The mate saved my life. We have been waiting since 11 o’clock to unload and the boredom made me go and prepare the mate. When this truck passes by, the load was not secure,” he added.

The driver attributed the accident to the load being poorly placed and the poor level of the port’s floor. “We are hostages here, no one sees us, the truck driver is the bottom of the barrel. There are many potholes,” Daniel stated.

The union of workers of the Port of Montevideo also expressed its concern about the conditions in which transporters must work, according to El Debate.
