Two sailors remain missing after the sinking of the bulk carrier Chang Xin 198 in the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of Hainan Island, in China.

The ship sank after capsizing amid bad weather due to cargo shift. Six crew members jumped into the sea.

The ship capsized around 10:00 p.m. local time and a vessel was dispatched from Basuo port to the site about one hour later. The search and rescue operation was hampered by the difficult weather conditions, with waves reaching 3 meters in height and wind gusts at 7 Beaufort.

By 12:45 a.m., two sailors had been recovered from the water, while two more were rescued a little later.

Despite ongoing efforts, two crew members are still missing.

Search and rescue operations continue, under the leadership of the Chinese coast guard and maritime authorities. Passing ships and vessels have been informed to be on alert for the missing sailors.
