The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) reported that it will impose 100% tariffs on certain ship-to-shore (STS) cranes from China and on some cargo handling equipment, including the intermodal chassis used by trucks to transport containers.

The agency reaffirmed that it will not apply tariffs to STS cranes ordered before April 17. The USTR stated that it has decided not to impose tariffs on intermodal shipping containers due to the potential impact on U.S. carriers.

Furthermore, it proposed new modifications to the measures adopted in April, imposing additional costs of up to 150% on certain cargo handling equipment, including rubber-tired gantry cranes and components of such equipment.

In line with information revealed in the case, the agreement comes after the hearings held in May by the USTR. In that forum, it was also addressed that the STS crane market was primarily dominated by the Chinese company Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries (ZPMC).
