Vado Gateway, al via il collegamento settimanale SLA Baltic Sea, tra Nord Africa e Baltico

VADO LIGURE – The Container Terminal Vado Gateway announced this morning the acquisition of the new weekly SLA Baltic Sea service by Maersk, starting next June 4th, which will connect the Ligurian terminal with the ports of North Africa and the Baltic Sea.

«Vado Gateway – explains the terminal company in a note – «is among the most technologically advanced port infrastructures in the Mediterranean and the only one in the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea that can rely on depths of up to 17.25 meters capable of accommodating and operating without limitations the large latest-generation ships even at full load (ULCS – Ultra Large Container Ships).»

The M/V Maersk Makutu will inaugurate the service on Thursday, June 4th, docking at the deep-sea quay of the Vado terminal; the containership has a capacity of 4650 TEUs, is 292 meters long and 32 meters wide.
The ship is the first of 5 units with a capacity between 4,000 and 5,000 TEUs which, starting from Port Tangier Mediterranee (Morocco), will call at Algeciras (Spain), Gdansk (Poland), Bremerhaven (Germany), Vado Ligure, Port Said East (Egypt), Alexandria (Egypt).

«The inclusion of the Container Terminal of Vado Ligure in the new SLA Baltic Sea connection linking the Mediterranean Sea and the Baltic Sea consolidates the role of Vado Gateway in the international terminal geography and strengthens the connectivity of the terminal, the only one in Italy present within this important maritime service» comments Santi Casciano – CEO Vado Gateway.

«This new intra-Med shuttle service – continues Daniela Mossa, Commercial Director of Vado Gateway – is significant because it opens new connections, both for Vado Gateway and for our country, towards important international ports. In addition to the direct connection between Vado Gateway and the ports of Northern Europe, it guarantees a likewise direct connection with the Egyptian ports of Port Said East and Alexandria Old Port, reachable in just 4 and 5 days respectively. From Port Said, moreover, a transhipment relay is planned that allows reaching Jeddah in just 9 days, significantly reducing transit times compared to currently available services».

Vado Gateway is a modern port system serving Shipping Lines and logistics operators. The infrastructure, located in Vado Ligure, includes the new deep-sea Container Terminal, among the most technologically advanced port infrastructures in the Mediterranean thanks to a series of cutting-edge equipment, and the adjacent Reefer Terminal, the largest hub in the Mediterranean for fruit logistics capable of also accommodating dry containers dedicated to the transport of goods that do not require controlled temperature. Operational since February 2020, the new Container Terminal of Vado Ligure at full capacity will be able to handle approximately 900 thousand TEUs (20-foot containers) annually, with an intermodal rail target of 40%. The TEUs handled in 2025 within the two Vado terminals were approximately 600 thousand in total (+58.4% compared to 2024), of which 24% export, 37% import and 33% transhipment.
