Vestas Taiwan to charter Marco Polo Marine’s new CSOV

Must read

Marco Polo Marine’s Taiwan-based subsidiary PKR Offshore has signed an agreement with Vestas Taiwan for the maiden deployment of its new commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV)

The CSOV, which can accommodate up to 110 people, will be deployed on various offshore windfarms in Taiwan, Japan and South Korea for a three-year period, based on a minimum utilisation commitment per annum.

The vessel is currently under construction at Marco Polo Shipyard at Batam, Indonesia, and will commence operations towards the end of Q1 2024.

The 83-m vessel will be the first CSOV designed and built in Asia and will be equipped with a walk-to-work gangway and a 3D motion-compensated crane. It will also have a hybrid-based energy storage system that will reduce emissions.

Marco Polo Marine chief executive Sean Lee said, “We worked closely with offshore wind providers to design a CSOV that services their needs. We are very pleased to have secured an agreement with Vestas, a major offshore turbine manufacturer. This is testament to our ability to build, own and operate highly specialised wind vessels that deliver the highest performance, quality and reliability for our customers.”

Vestas Taiwan regional director Dennis Mordhorst said, “We see Marco Polo Marine as well positioned in the Asia Pacific region and look forward to strengthening our working relationship in the coming years.”
