Virgin Voyages’ 2,700-passenger Brilliant Lady called at Vancouver’s Canada Place terminal on 11 May, marking the cruise line’s first call at the port and the ship’s first visit as part of a new annual Alaska itinerary, according to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The ship embarked and disembarked passengers and restocked supplies at Canada Place before sailing north through Canada’s Inside Passage toward Alaska.

Canada Place has served as a homeport for Alaska cruises for 40 years, handling passenger embarkation and disembarkation, provisioning, maintenance, repairs and refuelling for one-way and round-trip voyages through the Inside Passage.

Brilliant Lady is one of nearly 360 cruise ship calls scheduled at Canada Place this year. Each call is estimated to generate CAD 3m ($2.18m) for the local economy and support jobs across the region.

Virgin Voyages is a cruise company founded by Virgin Group and Bain Capital. It operates adult-only cruise ships under the Virgin Voyages brand.

The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is the federal agency responsible for the stewardship of the Port of Vancouver, including marine trade, cruise operations and port-related land and infrastructure.
