The two-day educational event titled “We Set Sails” was conducted by the Sports Office of the Hellenic Coast Guard (HCG) in Kymi on October 16 and 17, 2025, in the presence of the General Secretary of Shipping and Ports (GSSP) of the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy (MSIP).
The program was implemented with the support of the GSSP of the MSIP and in close cooperation with the Kymi Nautical Club. The event involved cadets from the Kymi Merchant Marine Academy (MMA) and students from the Konistres Vocational High School (EPAL), from the maritime professions sector.
Participants had the opportunity to experience a comprehensive educational experience, which included both theoretical training and practical training at sea. The goal was for them to get to know the world of sailing up close and to understand the basic principles of nautical sports.
Guidance and training were undertaken by experienced officers of the Coast Guard and acclaimed world champion sailors. The trainers passed on their valuable knowledge and rich experience in the field to the cadets.
This specific event highlighted the importance of nautical sports education and the experiential contact of young people with the sea and the aquatic environment, strengthening the essential link between maritime training and sports.
