The Andhra Pradesh project will serve both domestic and export markets, leveraging the state’s port infrastructure to access global demand centres in Europe and Asia.
Yamna, a global leader in green hydrogen and ammonia production, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) in India. This agreement marks a major step forward in Yamna’s plans to develop a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project in Andhra Pradesh, a state on the east coast of southern India.
Backed by HYCAP, a UK-based private equity fund manager fully dedicated to the energy transition, Yamna brings cutting-edge expertise, global partnerships, and a proven track record in green molecules project development. The proposed project aligns with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to produce 5 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of green hydrogen by 2030.
Yamna, as per the MoU, will work closely with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to develop a phased grid-connected green ammonia project with a planned capacity of up to 1 Mtpa, to be located near the port of Krishnapatnam. The project is valued at $2 billion and is expected to generate approximately 5,500 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
### Green Hydrogen Economy
Shailendra Bebortha, Country Head (India) of Yamna, said the state’s rich renewable energy potential, progressive policy framework, and strategic location make it an ideal destination for green hydrogen development. “We thank NREDCAP, AP EDB & AP IIC, and other government departments for their active cooperation with the initiative. This project will not only support India’s decarbonization goals but will also position Andhra Pradesh as a key player in the global green hydrogen economy.”
Gal Bogin, Chief Development Officer of Yamna, said they are honoured to partner with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in this transformative initiative. Yamna’s ‘Develop-Build-Own-Operate’ model enables long-term project viability, and its international experience includes landmark developments such as the 1 Mtpa green ammonia project in Oman, co-developed with J-POWER (Japan) and EDF (France). The company’s core strengths lie in advanced project structuring, strong offtake relationships, ammonia expertise, and a skilled, agile team.
The Andhra Pradesh project will serve both domestic and export markets, leveraging the state’s port infrastructure to access global demand centres in Europe and Asia. Several leading international financial institutions have already expressed interest in supporting the initiative. Furthermore, the MoU reflects the shared vision of Yamna and the Government of Andhra Pradesh to accelerate the green energy transition and establish the state as a global hub for sustainable hydrogen production.
