Yangzijiang Shipbuilding officially delivered a new LNG-powered maxi-neopanamax (M-NPX) container ship to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

The MSC Iris is the penultimate unit in a series of twelve 16,000 TEU LNG-powered sister ships that MSC ordered from the shipyard in October 2022. “Before the end of this year, the series will be completed with the delivery of the MSC Saudi Arabia,” reported Alphaliner.

“All ships in this series will be managed directly by MSC, although there are different ownership arrangements. It is believed that some units are on long-term lease or bareboat charter contracts, while others are apparently directly owned,” it added.

The MSC Iris belongs to the group of units owned by MSC. The vessel has a length of 366 meters and a beam of 51 meters (20 container rows). It has a deadweight of 169,500 tons with a maximum draft of 17 meters.

Propulsion is provided by a main MAN B&W 8G 95ME-C10-GI engine with an output of 55,000 kW and a maximum speed of 22 knots.

“MSC will deploy its latest newbuild in the Far East – /Pakistan service named (Shikra), which operates with a mixed fleet of vessels between 8,500 and 16,500 TEU,” concluded Alphaliner.
