Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has secured $374.25m (US$290m) in orders so far in 2025. This is just 5% of its annual target.

The slowdown comes as shipowners delay new deals due to global economic uncertainty and trade tensions.

In 2024, the group achieved total order wins of 126 vessels worth US$14.6b.

Executive Chairman and CEO Ren Letian said recent U.S. trade policies and global tariffs have caused customers to hold off on orders. “We’re seeing a wait-and-see approach from clients,” Ren noted.

Despite the weak start, Yangzijiang remains supported by a strong orderbook that stretches to 2028.

The company said it is focused on executing existing contracts on time and at high quality.
