ZPMC completed the installation using the float-over method of the world’s largest offshore converter station, Hai Feng Zhi Xin (Heart of the Sea Wind), in China.
Weighing 25,000 tons and with approximate dimensions of 82.5 by 85.5 by 44 meters, the structure was placed in its position at sea and connected to the jacket legs with millimeter precision.
Achieving this required 24/7 monitoring of sea conditions, precise analysis of the tidal window, intelligent surveillance of the entire process, and refined ballast control throughout the entire float-over operation.
When fully operational, Hai Feng Zhi Xin will stand as the world’s highest-voltage (nearly 500 kV) and highest-capacity (2,000 MW) offshore HVDC (flexible) converter station. It is expected to generate around 6 billion kWh of clean electricity per year and support the southern region of China’s transition towards a low-carbon energy future.
