A source close to the Iranian negotiating team stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed, unless Israel’s actions in Lebanon are stopped. Likewise, it emphasized that lifting the maritime blockade alone would not be sufficient to restore passage through this strategic waterway.
“If Israel continues to commit crimes in Lebanon and the territorial integrity of this country is not guaranteed, no negotiations will be held on other matters,” the person stated.
“As explicitly stated in clause 13 (of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding), if the United States does not fulfill its commitment under clause 1, clause 5 will also not be implemented, which means that the Strait of Hormuz will not be reopened,” the source added.
According to what was indicated, the release of part of Iran’s assets under the memorandum of understanding, as well as the agreement reached with the Qataris, together with the implementation of Clause 1 regarding the end of the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, the complete lifting of the blockade, and the issuance of exemptions for the sale of Iranian oil, petrochemical products, and derivatives, are conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“Lifting the maritime blockade against Iran alone is not enough to reopen the Strait of Hormuz under clause 5,” the source stated.
