France and Oman are working together to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and will cooperate with their partners to clear mines from the Strait of Hormuz, French President Emmanuel Macron announced today.

“We decided to work together, along with our partners, to demine the Strait, in order to secure the sea lanes and guarantee free and unconditional passage through Hormuz,” Macron said in a post on platform X after his meeting with the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, at the Élysée.

Earlier, Macron welcomed the Sultan, again wearing the same sunglasses that caused a stir at the Davos Forum in January. He did not choose them because of excessive sunlight, but because he is again facing “an eye problem,” as was made known by his entourage.

The French president did not take off his glasses even during the signing ceremony of bilateral agreements inside the presidential palace, with the Sultan by his side.
