Cruise activity in Chania is moving at record rates, with the port of Souda recording an increase in both ship arrivals and passenger traffic during the first four months of 2026, despite the initial concerns expressed internationally due to geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

The picture currently being formed confirms the dynamic of the Chania destination on the map of the eastern Mediterranean, with cruise companies strengthening their presence and maintaining a high number of approaches.

According to the data of the first four months, 26 cruise ship arrivals were recorded in Souda with a total of 36,576 passengers, while one arrival with 128 passengers took place at the Venetian port of Chania. In the corresponding period of 2025, 17 arrivals with 32,330 passengers had been recorded in Souda and no arrivals at the Venetian port.

At this point it should be noted that the total passenger traffic at the two ports increased from 32,330 passengers in the first four months of 2025 to 36,704 passengers in the corresponding period of 2026, recording an increase of 13.5%.

At the same time, the increase in the number of ship arrivals is even greater, as from 17 ships in the first four months of 2025, the number rose to 27 ships in 2026, marking an increase of 58.8%.

At the same time, today’s picture at the port of Souda characteristically reflects the dynamic developing in the area, as a triple arrival of cruise ships is taking place with a total of 5,762 passengers and fair weather.

Specifically, the “Star Legend” with 274 passengers, the “Marella Discovery” with 1,774 passengers, and also the “Enchanted Princess”, 330 meters long, which is making its first arrival in Souda carrying 3,714 passengers, have docked.

In any case, the course of cruising in Chania so far creates strong conditions for a particularly dynamic year, with Souda steadily strengthening its position as one of the most emerging cruise destinations in the eastern Mediterranean.
