The Grendi Group, through its companies Mito of Sardinia and Grendi Trasporti Marittimi (Gtm), welcomed a delegation of 21 managers from the Maersk group in Cagliari. The meeting, which took place last September 24th, focused on strengthening the logistic flows between the island and the main markets of North Africa.

The collaboration in the field of integrated logistics between the two groups has in fact celebrated a notable result, as announced in a statement: over 100 ro-ro ships managed by Grendi on behalf of Maersk on the route to and from Tunisia have been surpassed. This transport solution, operational since November 2023, has established the port of Cagliari as a crucial hub for direct international maritime connections to North Africa.

The meeting, held in the Grendi offices, was attended by Maersk’s top management from the South West Europe area (France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia) and the South East Europe area (Italy, Greece, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia), including the CEOs Emilio De La Cruz and Alessandro Maldina. They were welcomed by the CEO of Grendi Trasporti Marittimi, Antonio Musso, who provided a comprehensive overview of the Group’s activities and latest developments.

The day then continued with an in-depth tour of the logistics hub. On the quays, the Maersk managers were able to observe the ship loading procedures up close, with particular interest in the cassette system, a distinctive feature of Grendi’s intermodal offering. The visit also included the yards of Mito, the container terminal of the Porto Canale, which in 2024 handled over 150,000 TEUs. The terminal has also recently obtained the renewal of its concession for 20 years, covering 750 meters of quay and over 179,000 square meters of operational spaces. Finally, the warehouse area managed by M.A. Grendi Società Benefit was viewed, used for the storage and last-mile distribution of goods in Southern and Central Sardinia.

The joint commitment, concludes the Grendi Group’s statement, ended in a convivial atmosphere, with a dinner featuring traditional Sardinian dishes.
