The president of Italian Blue Growth draws up a balance sheet at the end of the 2025 edition
La Spezia – Record numbers, illustrious attendees, a look to the future because “the goal is to enhance the work of young researchers and help them rediscover the link with the sea”. The curtain has fallen on the 2025 edition of Seafuture, which managed to indicate a very precise course: “The sea is a place of connection and opportunity,” explains Cristiana Pagni, president of Italian Blue Growth
Seafuture is often described as a strategic platform for the maritime sector. What, in your opinion, is its main role?
“It represents a fundamental meeting point for innovation, research and opportunities for young people. It is a place where ideas, technologies and skills can grow and turn into concrete projects”.
You have often spoken about the importance of STEM disciplines. Why are they so decisive today?
“STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and mathematics – are the engine of a country’s progress. Investing in these skills means strengthening national competitiveness and playing an active role in the global scenario”.
How does Seafuture support young researchers?
“Together with the Ligurian District of Marine Technologies we have created a prize dedicated to students. The goal is to enhance the work of young researchers and help them rediscover the link with the sea, which represents a precious and often still underexplored resource”.
What is your vision of the sea in the future context?
“The sea is a place of connection and opportunity. It is here that innovation and new generations meet. We believe that it is precisely from this dialogue that ideas and solutions capable of responding to the challenges of the future can be born.
Does this commitment also have an employment and social impact?
“Absolutely yes. It is not just about creating jobs, but about training the next generation of leaders and decision-makers who will guide Italy in the coming years. It is a strategic investment in the country’s human capital”.
