According to Shipping Industry News, Norwegian shipowner 2020 Bulkers has agreed to sell one scrubber-fitted Newcastlemax bulk carrier for $72.75 million.
Specifically, following the package sale of three Newcastlemax bulk carriers to Asyad Shipping, Norwegian shipowner 2020 Bulkers continues its divestment, having agreed to sell the “Bulk Sao Paulo” (built in 2020) to an unaffiliated third party for $72.75 million.
In short, this move further highlights 2020 Bulkers’ strategy of “cashing out” to release asset value in the strong ship sale and purchase market. After the transaction is completed, 2020 Bulkers will retain the other two Newcastlemax bulk carriers built in 2020, namely the “Bulk Sydney” and the “Bulk Santos”.
According to follow-up reports from Shipping Industry News, the company’s executives previously stated that the decision to sell the vessel was because the offer was “too good to refuse”.
Greek shipowner Primebulk sells 16-year-old Capesize bulk carrier
Meanwhile, Greek shipowner Primebulk has also sold one Capesize bulk carrier amidst the strengthening market.
The sales report shows that the Greek shipowner, led by Paul Coronis, sold the “Cape Aqua” (178,100 DWT, built in 2009, scrubber-fitted) for $25.5 million to an undisclosed buyer. It is reported that the vessel was purchased for $18.9 million in 2017.
Furthermore, Primebulk is also reducing its exposure in the smaller bulk carrier segment, having sold its two Japanese-built Handysize bulk carriers, the “Mykonos” (30,100 DWT, built in 2013) and the “Madrid” (30,900 DWT, built in 2013), in a package deal for $22 million to Turkish shipowner Dramar Shipping. These two vessels were purchased for $23 million in 2021.
