The Bahía Cargo, from Fred. Olsen Express, marks one year of connecting the islands. Since it began operating on November 12, 2024, it has transported 100,700 linear meters of cargo in a total of 841 journeys and 54,396 miles traveled, consolidating the shipping company’s commitment to its logistics service, which was launched last 2024 with the purchase of two RoRo-type vessels.

Currently, Fred. Olsen Cargo Express has three vessels dedicated exclusively to cargo transport: Bentayga Cargo, Bahía Cargo, and Breñas Cargo. In this way, it offers four connections per day between Gran Canaria and Tenerife; one daily from each port between Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote; and three weekly between Tenerife and La Palma. It also connects the archipelago with the peninsula, through Huelva.

The Head of the Cargo Department of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Jesús Dionis, explained that “during these first 12 months of operation, service excellence has been our priority, as is usual in all areas of the shipping company. Among the most common goods, bottled water stands out, with a total volume of 28 tons transported. This is followed by food products, with 15; soft drinks, with 12; glass containers, with five; and finally general parcels, with two tons.”

In the words of the Fleet Director of Fred. Olsen Express, Juan Ignacio Liaño, “the data has shown us the sustained growth of our cargo service, as well as the customers’ trust in the company. It has been a year of consolidation, in which we have managed to optimize routes and offer more efficient logistics solutions. A service designed to guarantee supply and address the particularities of insularity.”

The Bahía Cargo has a loading capacity for 1,800 linear meters and 9 thousand tons. With a length of 160 meters and an average speed of 20 knots, it can transport all types of cargo, including dangerous or oversized goods. It is the twin of the Bentayga Cargo, with which it operates the Fred. Olsen Cargo Express freight routes.
