A new episode of congestion could face the Port of Antwerp, Belgium’s main port complex, due to a national strike. The situation has been warned by Hapag-Lloyd which, through a note to its customers, has indicated that delays could occur in said terminal.

“We inform you that a national strike has been called in Belgium for the 24th, 25th and 26th of November, with the possibility that the first operational repercussions could begin on the evening of November 23rd,” the shipping company stated.

“As a consequence, interruptions to the logistics chain and maritime traffic in the Port of Antwerp are expected,” it added.

“At this stage, the full extent of the impact on port activities, cargo handling and related services cannot yet be determined. We are monitoring the situation closely and will take all possible measures to minimize the impact. We will provide updates as soon as more information is available,” the company concluded.
