CMC applauds Canadian government engagement on trade and transportation

The Chamber of Marine Commerce is applaudingthe start of a federal engagement process announced May 8ththat will enable feedback that will inform federal government effortsto update legislationin ways thatbenefitCanadians businesses, workers, and consumers.

“This engagement demonstrates a clear understandingby the Government of Canadathat the success of supply chains and the success of the economy are deeply intertwined, and when supply chains are strengthened, opportunity grows from coast to coast to coast,” noted Joshua H. Juel, President and CEO of the Chamber of Marine Commerce.

“The Chamber of Marine Commerce encourages all of our Canadian-based members to participatein this process, as we identify regulatory, workforce development, and investment opportunities that will yield significant benefits for generations to come.”

The Federal Government hasstatedthe engagement process will last fromMay 8,2026to June 6, 2026, and will encompass industry stakeholders as well asFirst Nations, Inuit and Métis governments, rightsholdersand Indigenous Peoples. This work is part of a broader efforttosimplify and accelerate Canada’s regulatory process– an effort led byDominic LeBlanc,President of the King’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister responsible for Canada-U.S. Trade, Intergovernmental Affairs, Internal Trade and One Canadian Economy, andSteven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport.
