April global cruise new ship orders significantly increased year-on-year

In April 2026, a total of 5 cruise ships with 1.049 million gross tons were transacted globally, representing a year-on-year increase of 156.7% in gross tons. Specifically, on April 15, Princess Cruises, under Carnival Corporation, ordered 3 LNG-powered Voyager-class cruise ships of 183,000 gross tons and 4,700 passenger capacity from Fincantieri, scheduled for delivery in 2035, 2038, and 2039 respectively; on April 28, Royal Caribbean International, under Royal Caribbean Group, ordered 2 LNG-powered Icon-class cruise ships of 250,000 gross tons and 7,000 passenger capacity from Meyer Werft, scheduled for delivery in 2029 and 2030 respectively.

As of now, the global cruise ship orderbook totals 107 ships with 10.903 million gross tons (estimated at $90 billion), with the furthest delivery date extending to 2039. The combined orderbook of the four major cruise operators accounts for 76.5% of the global total, among which MSC, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Royal Caribbean Group, and Carnival Corporation hold orderbooks of 2.272 million, 2.213 million, 1.954 million, and 1.900 million gross tons respectively.
