The Argentine shipyard Tandanor, located in the Dársena Sur of the Port of Buenos Aires, completed the comprehensive repair of the tanker Helios, a vessel 145 meters in length and 23 meters in beam. The ship was involved in a collision with the chemical tanker Ginga Bobcat at the Port of Campana, in May 2026.
According to the naval facility, the work comprised the structural recovery of sectors affected by the impact, work on the propulsion system and the shaft line, renewal of piping and auxiliary systems, comprehensive treatment of the hull, and a complete program of inspections and quality controls.
The most complex intervention was concentrated on the starboard stern, where naval steel plates of grade AH-32 and various structural elements damaged by the collision were replaced. The tasks also included the reconstruction of supports and foundations, the renewal of various deck components, and work on the purifier room and other affected spaces.
In parallel, shipyard specialists carried out the dismantling, inspection, and assembly of the propulsion propeller, checks on the shaft line, measurements of the steering system, and interventions on various mechanical mechanisms linked to the vessel’s operation.
The repair also included the renewal of piping corresponding to various service systems, comprehensive hull treatment through hydrojetting and painting, technical cleaning work, maneuvers on the anchor chains, and an exhaustive program of non-destructive testing and inspections aimed at verifying each of the repairs executed.
The intervention required the coordinated participation of Tandanor’s various technical areas and made it possible to return the Helios to service, after completing all the controls and inspections required for its operation.
It should be recalled that the chemical tanker involved in the accident with the tanker Helios was also repaired by the same shipyard, a process that was completed in early July.
