On October 20th, the sea trial team of China Merchants Industry (Weihai) Shipyard successfully completed the sea trial for the first 7,000-car dual-fuel PCTC (Project W0306) built for Norwegian shipowner GAC and returned to port smoothly, overcoming multiple challenges related to new designs, new equipment, and new systems.
Prior to the sea trial, the project team held a technical preparation meeting in advance. They systematically reviewed the sea trial experience from the series of PCTCs, conducted a comprehensive risk assessment, and stocked up on vulnerable spare parts for critical equipment. They also compiled relevant sea trial verification comments, with the Quality Management Department taking the lead in completing the necessary rectifications.
During the sea trial, the project team closely monitored maritime weather changes, proactively responded to various complex situations, and flexibly adjusted the inspection plan. They prioritized completing tests with high sea state requirements, such as the EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index), and ensured the orderly connection of inspections for various systems. The Technical Department actively coordinated with the shipowner and classification society, while the Quality Management Department followed the inspection process to close out related comments. They also coordinated with the Interior Outfitting Department and the Manufacturing Department to provide logistical support and production assistance, demonstrating efficient collaboration and problem-solving capabilities.
Currently, the project team is fully engaged in eliminating outstanding comments and completing the remaining work to ensure the vessel is delivered on schedule.
