At the “Shippax Ferry Conference 2026” global ro-ro ship professional forum held from May 5 to 7, the Stena NewMax series’ first 2800-meter lane methanol dual-fuel ro-ro vessel “STENA FUTURA”, built by China Merchants Shipyard (Weihai), won the “Shippax 2026 Best Ro-Ro Ship Award”. This is the company’s first international award in the ro-ro ship sector, and the fourth time it has received an award from this forum since 2020.
The vessel has an overall length of 147.0 meters, a molded breadth of 26.3 meters, a design draft of 5.2 meters, a service speed of 16.5 knots, can accommodate 12 passengers and 26 crew members, and has a capacity of 2800 lane meters, maximizing freight volume—an 80% increase in capacity compared to Stena’s previously operated ro-ro vessels. It is also equipped with methanol fuel, a battery power system, a shore power system, and a rotor sail auxiliary propulsion system, making it a state-of-the-art cargo ro-ro vessel integrating multiple clean energy technologies in the industry.
The “Shippax Award” is presented by Shippax, a well-known media outlet in the shipping industry, and is regarded as one of the most prestigious trade awards in the ro-pax, ro-ro, and cruise sectors.
