The National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile (CNDC) will join the legal actions that will be adopted against two criminal gangs dedicated to the theft of trucks and salmon loads in the south of the country. The criminal groups were dismantled in a nationwide operation that left 22 detainees.
Through a statement, the CNDC indicated that “a nationwide operation managed to destroy two criminal gangs dedicated to the theft of trucks and salmon loads in southern Chile and subsequent illegal marketing at the Santiago Fish Terminal. 60 tons of this valuable product, trucks and firearms were seized, and there are 22 detainees ready for their formalization in court.”
In this regard, the organization explained that “following a repeated pattern, the gangs stole salmon mainly in the Calbuco and Puerto Montt area, boarding cargo vehicles with weaponry, putting our drivers at risk and then selling the product on the black markets. For the National Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile, this complex and long investigation is conclusive proof that the transport and logistics industry continues to be the main target of criminal organizations that combine vehicle theft with large-scale smuggling.”
The Confederation reiterated that the union participates in efforts against organized crime and collaborates in different coordination instances with the police, security agencies and government oversight agencies, along with other actors that are part of this work.
“This Confederation of Truck Owners of Chile will become a party to the necessary legal actions against the members of this criminal entity, especially since there are 22 people involved in the Metropolitan, Valparaíso and Bio Bio regions. We will meticulously analyze the background information to define our course of action,” they emphasized from the organization.
“Likewise, we express our total support for this task led by the southern metropolitan regional prosecutor, Héctor Barros, the PDI and the Internal Revenue Service,” they concluded.
