Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with the Turkish group Albayrak for the delivery of ASD Tug 2111 and ASD Tug 2813 tugs, in what is the first agreement between the two companies.
Albayrak Group is one of the largest companies in Turkey and operates in the construction, industry and logistics sectors. The latter includes the management of the Port of Alsancak (Izmir), the Port of Trabzon (Turkey), the Port of Conakry (Guinea), the Port of Mogadishu (Somalia), the Port of Pointe-Noire (Congo), the Port of Banjul (Gambia), the ports of Bata and Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) and the Port of Baku (Azerbaijan).
The ASD Tug 2111 and ASD Tug 2813 will provide towing services in the ports of Conakry and Pointe-Noire, respectively. Due to its shipbuilding program, Damen had already begun construction of the vessels before receiving the order. Therefore, the shipyard will deliver both vessels within five to six months from the signing of the contract.
The units are designed to offer compact power. According to the manufacturer, the vessels are highly maneuverable and suitable for a wide range of port tasks, including pushing and pulling maneuvers, port assistance and escort.
The ASD 2111 tug is being built at the Damen shipyards in Changde, China, and the ASD 2813 at the Damen Song Cam facilities in Vietnam. The ASD 2111, with a length of 21.02 meters and a beam of 11.13 meters, offers a bollard pull of 50 tons, while the ASD 2813, with a length of 25.59 meters and a beam of 12.93 meters, offers a bollard pull of up to 83 tons.
“Initially, we chose Damen because of the good reputation of its vessels. When starting the conversations, we were very pleased to discover that Damen could offer a delivery time of six months from the signing of the contract. We consider this collaboration with Damen as the start of a long-term alliance, as we expand our fleets in the eight ports we currently manage,” said Yunus Yilmaz, General Manager of Albayrak Group.
“We are very proud to receive this order from one of the largest companies in Turkey with global activity. Thanks to our stock building program, we can offer Albayrak Group the fast delivery it needed. I have full confidence that these new tugs will meet the group’s requirements for its operations in the ports of Conakry and Pointe-Noire, and I look forward to continuing our collaboration in the future,” said Damen’s Regional Sales Director, Emre Turkoz.
