According to an analysis by Drewry, cancelled sailings for the next five weeks will reach 34 blank sailings out of a total of 702 announced departures. On average, 95% of vessels are expected to start their voyages as scheduled.

The consultancy indicated that between week 20 (11 to 17 May) and week 24 (8 to 14 June), the main routes; i.e., the Transpacific, Transatlantic and Asia-Northern Europe and Mediterranean, will accumulate a cancellation of 5% of total departures.

Disruptions remain concentrated in eastbound transpacific trade (47%), followed by the Mediterranean (32%), while the Transatlantic (21%) remains comparatively less affected. Gemini Cooperation continues to report zero cancellations.

“The brief launch and suspension of the Project Freedom operation added a new layer of uncertainty to the maritime transport environment in the Middle East, although the disruption in container markets remains relatively localized. Shipping lines continue to divert cargo through hub centers in India, Colombo and the Red Sea, while alternative multimodal solutions are becoming increasingly common,” reported Drewry.

“Capacity conditions are gradually improving, with a projection that cancelled sailings will decrease from 59 in April to 49 in May and to 30 in June, along with a 4% month-on-month (MoM) increase in East-West capacity. For shippers, this indicates an improvement in network stability, although alternative routes, elevated costs and risks of periodic disruptions are likely to persist in the short term,” it added.
