ME-GI Engine

Recently, Everllence secured a new order to provide a complete set of propulsion systems for 5 newly built 8400TEU container ships at an Asian shipyard. This series of ships and the supporting engines will be built in China.

Each ship will be equipped with the following systems: one Everllence B&W 6G80ME-GI Mk 10.5 main engine, equipped with the patented EGRTC system (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Turbocharger Cut-off System); four /32DF LPSCR (Low Pressure Selective Catalytic Reduction) auxiliary engines; one set of PVU8000 (Pressure Vaporizer Unit) main engine gas supply system; one set of TCA77 & TCT30 main engine turbochargers; two ETB40 EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) blowers; each auxiliary engine is equipped with one TCR turbocharger.

Bjarne Foldager, Head of Everllence Two-Stroke Business, said: “We are always committed to being a world-class complete propulsion system supplier, and this remarkable project is a perfect demonstration of our integrated solutions for the market – this project provides a comprehensive solution for a modern series of container ships.”

Foldager added: “It is worth mentioning that the ME-GI engine has had a strong start this year, solidifying its position as the preferred choice for methane dual-fuel engines. This is partly due to the current hot newbuilding market for container ships – the ME-GI engine stands out with advantages such as the lowest methane emissions among its peers. Another advantage of the ME-GI is the excellent position of LNG as a decarbonization transition fuel and its mature supply chain system. As biomass and synthetic LNG continue to increase production at commercially viable prices, the ME-GI engine will ultimately help shipowners achieve their net-zero emission goals.”

Christian Ludwig, Head of Two-Stroke Sales and Promotion at Everllence, said: “With the best gas efficiency and attractive pilot fuel oil consumption, the total installed power of ME-GI engines has exceeded 25 million kilowatts, firmly holding a leading position in the dual-fuel two-stroke market. This series of engines offers bore sizes from 35 to 95, meeting the vast majority of propulsion needs – even including passenger ferries, and are often ordered together with our PVU (Pressure Vaporizer Unit) products.”

Michael Petersen, Senior Vice President of Everllence PrimeServ and Head of Denmark, emphasized: “The unique advantage of the PVU is its perfect match with the Everllence B&W /ME-GIE engine and full integration into the main engine control system. This ensures excellent performance and energy efficiency, as evidenced by its market-leading overhaul interval cycle. It is worth noting that our PVU also pioneered engine application for boil-off gas.”

Dr. Daniel Struckmeier, Head of Sales and Licensing for Turbochargers and EGT Asia Pacific at Everllence, said: “We are very proud to apply the complete turbocharger solution to this milestone project. The turbocharger units for the main and auxiliary engines, as well as the ETB blowers for the EGR system, are all supplied by Everllence. This complete configuration will significantly enhance the overall engine performance through system synergies.”

According to an Everllence report, since its launch in 2014, the ME-GI engine has gained widespread market acceptance. As of the beginning of this year, the cumulative sales of this engine series have exceeded 1,000 units, with orders in the container segment alone exceeding 400 units.
