The concession that regulates the occupation and use by Fincantieri of a significant part of the Port of Ancona for its industrial activities was signed. The concession was signed by Vincenzo Garofalo, president of the Central Adriatic Port Authority, and Pierroberto Folgiero, chief executive officer and general manager of Fincantieri.

The Port Authority has granted Fincantieri the use of over 314 thousand square meters of land, water, and facilities within the port. The concession will be valid until the end of 2064 and will allow the company to develop and expand its shipbuilding activities.

With this concession, which culminates a process begun in 2017, Fincantieri is committing to a significant modernization and development program for the Ancona shipyard, with a total investment of approximately USD 45 million. The goal is to revitalize the Marche plant, making it increasingly competitive in the construction of large warships.

This step represents a new milestone in the shared path between Fincantieri and the Port Authority, which began with the agreement signed in November 2023, dedicated to the growth and innovation of shipbuilding in the Port of Ancona.

The concession confirms the joint commitment to enhance the strategic role of the port and the shipyard, reinforcing its contribution to the economic development of the region and the Italian naval sector.

Pierroberto Folgiero, general manager and chief executive officer of Fincantieri, stated that “the signing of the concession represents a fundamental step for the future of the Ancona shipyard and for the entire Italian shipbuilding industry. Investing in Ancona means investing in the country’s ability to be a leader in innovation and international competitiveness.”

“With our development plan, we aim to transform the shipyard into a center of excellence, where tradition and technology combine to generate value for the region and the entire industrial chain. Our commitment is to build, together with the Port Authority and local institutions, a sustainable and cutting-edge future for the Italian shipbuilding industry,” added Folgiero.

Vincenzo Garofalo, president of the Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority, stated that “this signature confirms Fincantieri’s long-term project for the Port of Ancona. This presence generates employment, innovation, and opportunities for the businesses in the Marche region and central Italy, which will continue to consider the Ancona shipyard a key reference point.”

“The construction of cruise ships, especially those in which the Ancona shipyard specializes, continues to be a booming industry and a benchmark for environmental innovations and onboard experiences. This unique capability is another global example of Italian craftsmanship that captivates and excites. We are proud that these unique creations continue to be realized in our port,” concluded Garofalo.
